What is Performing Arts School?

Performing Arts School is a 3rd level education of three years full-time studies and is equivalent to 180 ecvt credit points. The program is under supervision of The Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education. During the education we integrate the subjects, song, dance, and theatre to form a coherent whole: scenic performance.

Initially, the focus is on different tools you need to master in order to make it in your future profession. After that, the focus shifts to finding your individual expression. You will perform before an audience, by yourself as well as part of an ensemble. The objective is for you to become a conscious, independent, and creative performer.

PAS includes classes in the following subjects:

Dancing

Within dancing, you will work with different dance styles like ballet, jazz, tap dance, and street dance. The dance classes will teach you strength, flexibility, timing, stature, presence, focus, and spatial consciousness. This will give you presence and lightness as a dancer, actor, and singer on stage.

Classic ballet is the foundation of all scenic dance. We will work with different styles, genres, and repertoirs. Here, you will acquire a balanced stature, flexibility, and a strong core.

For decades, jazz dance has been the base of choreographies in musicals and shows. There are many different styles within jazz dance, and you will have the opportunity to exercise these by working with and be inspired by different teachers and choreographers during your education.

Tap dance has been a cornerstone of musicals since its birth. Tap dance will strengthen your rhythm and timing.

Street dance has evolved from being an underground movement to what it is today–an established, scenic expression. There are many different styles, and new ones keep evolving constantly.

Singing and voice

The teaching of singing and voice consists of individual singing classes, voice and speech classes, and choir and musical theory.

In Voice and Speech, you strive to develop a free and expressive voice for the stage and the studio. You learn voice anatomy, voice relaxation, and how to communicate different types of text to an audience.

Individual singing classes will take your voice and your prerequisites as their starting point. We help you develop a sustainable and sound singing technique, so you can express a number of different singing styles.

Choir and musical theory aim at training you to perform in an ensemble and following a musical leader. You will benefit from this in the future, when you’re working with bandmasters or conductors, either as a soloist or as part of an ensemble.

Theatre

Theatre classes consist of interpretation, musical, and theatre. This subject aims at making you a responsible, independent actor who’s able to work individually as well as in an ensemble.

In Theatre we work with action-based analysis as a starting point. You will learn a number of expressive forms, plays, and styles. The skills training will make you more expressive in and conscious about your performance.

In Musical you will get to integrate the various themes of the education. Here you will explore musical history both theoretically and pragmatically through working with theatrical scenes as well as singing and dancing scenes. You will also learn tools for analyzing musicals.

In Interpretation you will learn to perform songs scenically. Here you will interconnect the tools you have learnt in theatre and singing classes to a unified, scenic performance.

Other classes and
guest teachers

We believe in the artist as an entrepreneur, realizing your own visions through Project planning and collaboration. Therefore you will get a project theory that you will use when you yourself create and realize an idea from beginning to end. Supervision, practice, and reflection will give you a sound base for handling your own projects once your education is over.

Audition training will give you the best possible tools to present yourself as an artist. You will practice auditioning before a jury that will give you feedback, including recommendations and specific exercises.

Guest teachers

During your education you will meet a  number of interesting guest teachers working in the business.
